Folplast Material Storage Requirements

Best before

The product must be used within 6 months from delivery, or 9 months from manufacturing.

Solar radiation

Plastics, including polyethylene packing materials are sensitive to UV radiation and, therefore, they must be stored – especially during the summer – in areas where the product is protected from direct sunlight.

In case of products with UV additives, the UV stability is only guaranteed if the product is stored in an area protected from sunlight!

The strength of products subject to direct solar radiation but not containing a UV stabiliser may drastically decrease even during a few weeks, and after a prolonged period the material may break up!

Transportation, handling

In order to avoid damage to the film, the products must be transported and handled carefully!

Moisture

The water absorption of polyethylene is very low, but in order to avoid the product becoming mossy or mouldy store it in a dry place protected from rain, where the relative humidity is less than 60%, if possible.

For products rolled on a paper core: the wet or soaked paper core may collapse and as a result it will be difficult to wind off the product, if at all.

Application temperature of products with additives

During winter, or when the outside temperature is permanently below +5°C, stretch hoods, shrink-wrap films and all other products containing anti-static or slip agents should be stored – if possible – at the manufacturing line, in a place where the temperature is higher than +10°C, for at least 48 hours before use.

If this condition is not followed, problems with the resistance against static charge may arise: the material could stick together, crack more easily, and show brittle properties during use!
